This week we are celebrating woman and girls in sport and what better way to do that than by celebrating our very own Ice skaters from the Time Capsule who will soon be representing North Lanarkshire in the upcoming British ice skating championships in Sheffield on the 4th of December.
Mollie Chaddock age 10, Tilli Mullen age 13 and Monica Kerr age 16 all from North Lanarkshire have all been training together now for a number of years at the Time Capsule under coach Gemma Chaddock and absolutely love it.
The girls train for around 15/20 hours every week both before and after school and practice both on and off ice skills such as dancing, gymnastics and drama and hope that they will one day represent Great Britain in the biggest of competitions.
The upcoming British championships in Sheffield is the biggest competition in Britain and all 3 girls are very happy to have qualified after such a long stretch off the ice. The girls are so committed to the sport that they resorted to training on frozen puddles during lockdown to keep up their skills.
When asked if what would they say to others looking to get involved in the sport, the girls said “Skating is a fantastic sport for girls of all ages to get involved in as it’s a real mix of skills and also a great way to meet new friends. At North Lanarkshire Figure skating club, we have a large group of girls of all ages who train together and have a mutual love for the sport.”
Everyone here at NLC would like to wish the girls the best of luck in their upcoming competition and we cannot wait to hear how they get on.
